UPDATED 21st June 2005
CH. ABBOTSBURY AUCTIONEER SAM
Sam was born in Suffolk, England on the 25th January 1996 and came to Mark and Henriette Vella Bardon in Malta at the age of three months.
He is a much loved member of the family and has adjusted to the Mediterranean climate without any apparent problems.
Sam is the son of the 1996 Crufts B.O.B. Harry (English Ch. Abbotsbury Ailanthus) and grandson of the late Buckpasser (Norwegian and English Ch. Bernegårdens Buckpasser)of Trevor and Norma Goodwin in Suffolk. His other grandad is George (English Ch. Abbotsbury Impression, also of the Goodwins' Abbotsbury St. Bernards in Fakenham Magna, Suffolk, England.
In the Saint Bernard tradition, Sam is as willing to please as he is headstrong, always affectionate and loving, very patient, intelligent, playful but as strong as an ox when it comes to a scrum! His "speech" is short of being our language but he certainly makes himself understood.
Sam has the freedom of the house and claimed the three seater settee! He has been exceptionally easy to "house train" and has never damaged anything except for when, still a puppy, he knocked two crystal glasses off the coffee table with his tail. Now his tail is way too high up! Sam loves having guests at home and being the centre of attraction. Having spent quality time with a Saint, it is difficult to adjust to any other breed. He is extremely popular also in town. Like all Saints he is often referred to as Beethoven.
Our car is a Hyundai Sonata, and kids in the town are often to be heard calling "there comes the Sonata of Beethoven" !
CH. KARKOOBY SWEET SENSATION DAISY
Daisy is the second addition to the family (d.o.b. 23rd October 1997). She is
the progeny of Marlender St. Bernards , bred by Roger and Linda Martin of
Brinkworth in Chippenham, Wiltshire, U.K.and born at the Batchelor's Karkooby
Kennel in Spalding, Linconshire, less than 50 miles away from Sam's birthplace
in Fakenham Magna.
Her maternal grandad is (like Sam's) the Norwegian and English
Champion Bernegårdens Buckpasser of Abbotsbury St. Bernards and her maternal grandma is none other
than the Emma (Ch. Saranbeck Sayra at Marlender). Emma is the only St
Bernard to win Best of Breed at Crufts twice (1993 & 1995), also "St
Bernard of the Year" in England for 1997, when she was also Best Bitch
and Best Opposite Sex at Crufts and finally First Veteran Bitch at Crufts
1998. That was her "swan song".
Yes, as you can see, we are very proud of their ancestors too!
Daisy is adjusting to her first Mediterranean summer. Daisy and Sam are getting along fine. The Hyundai Sonata's
back seat isn't large enough to drive them both around in their desired
comfort,,,so we are thinking of an alternative vehicle! Any ideas? email us if you do!
